Ian Shive is an American filmmaker and photographer best known for his images and films of nature and the outdoors. Recipient of the prestigious Ansel Adams Award for Conservation Photography, Shive has been praised as the “leading chronicler of America’s national parks.” His passion for photography has led him to scale heights that most veteran photographers have yet to reach, resulting in him becoming one of the most published nature photographers in the world.
An inquisitive and tireless explorer, he has worked on assignment with some of the largest media outlets and most impactful environmental nonprofits and government agencies in the world, including the Nature Conservancy, the Sierra Club, the Environmental Defense Fund, the National Parks Conservation Association, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The National Parks: Our American Legacy and The National Parks: Our American Landscape, two of Shive’s best-selling photography books, have played a role in shaping environmental diplomacy efforts throughout the world and heightened awareness of our national parks and the National Park Service. Shive is currently at work on a film about the Midway Atoll, part of a marine national monument in the Pacific Ocean that was recently expanded by President Obama. Curated by Ian and Pilar Law, founder of Edition One Gallery, this exhibition features a selection of Ian’s most iconic and artful images of the national parks. Prints range from intimate portraits of rock and fern to sweeping landscapes printed large enough to make the viewer feel as if they were standing in the landscape itself.
Lovers of nature and of photography will discover world-class images that bring the majesty and diversity of our national parks to a level of art rarely ever seen in a gallery.
